Reflecting on my first six months with the Jersey Brain Tumour Charity, I am proud to say that putting our clients at the centre of everything we do has been my top priority. It’s their needs, experiences, and well-being that guide our efforts and shape our goals.
- We will continue to raise awareness about brain tumours and their impact.
- Organisation of events and campaigns to increase visibility of the charity.
- Advocate for improved healthcare and support systems.
- Build partnerships with local communities and organisations.
- Ensure we have transparent and effective use of donations.
While I have endeavoured to engage with Neurology and Tom Binet, the Health Minister, my attempts have, admittedly, been met with challenges. I finally had a meeting with Tom, and it was very productive. We will be working closely with his team to ensure the links between Neurology and the charity are strong. There are some plans in progress on how we can support each other going forward, and this means that Jo Hambrook, our consultant / counsellor who works closely with our patients, will be able to get answers for our patients on issues that they are experiencing.
Off the back of my meeting with Tom, I have reached out to the other Neurology charities to ensure there is no overlap in care and to also highlight the pathway that they should take to Neurology.
I was also invited to give a presentation to staff at Mourant, who have chosen JBTC as one of their charities for 2025. I took along Jo Hambrook and one of our patients, and our presentation was very well received, and it was a joy to be able to tell them the history of the charity, the work we do and a patient’s perspective on being diagnosed and living with a brain tumour diagnosis.
Moving forward, I remain dedicated to fostering connections, advocating for those we serve, and ensuring that their voices are heard loud and clear. My journey has just begun, and I am excited about what lies ahead.
