Jersey Brain Tumour Charity

Great news to start 2025!!

We are a Swimarathon beneficiary.

As a small charity, we are massively overwhelmed! This opportunity means so much for us, and it will allow us to continue our support for clients, family, and their friends, who have a brain tumour diagnosis.

We are a small team of volunteers, who offer emotional and practical support at the point of diagnosis, and in many cases continuing care over many years. We are totally dependent on grants, fundraising and donations to maintain this service.

Since our launch (2011), we estimate to support over 500 people (clients and family). Approximately 20-25 people a year are diagnosed with a brain tumour locally, and at least 25% (high grade) which could be life limiting.

Locally, we support many people with a high-grade tumour (Grade 3 and 4), and while we still signpost to the main cancer charities. To have a brain tumour diagnosis is incredibly stressful and isolating, the brain tumour community we have created is so important.

Many of our trustees and volunteers have actual first knowledge of how it feels to be in this position, due to their own diagnosis or their family member. They can assist in what to expect pre- and post-surgery and have practical knowledge of treatment plans.

As a Swimarathon beneficiary, in simple terms it allows us to continue doing what we do.

This week, data was released by the Less Survivable Cancers Taskforce showing that more than half (58%) of people in England diagnosed with a cancer of the brain (along with lung, liver, oesophagus, pancreas, or stomach) will die from their disease within one year.

Thank you to the Lions for selecting us. ðŸ’œ
