How your money is used

From every penny to every pound, being a non for profit organisation with no state or government funding, it really does matter to be able to provide the services we provide.

Our services are highly tailored to the needs of our patients to ensure we provide high quality, consistent support during times of uncertainty.

These are our key “projects” which are vital to those we support all year round and which we fundraise to provide for anyone affected with a brain tumour diagnosis:

• Our monthly ‘brainy buddies’ support group is usually advertised through the local media. The meetings are designed to extend the reach of the current emotional 1-1 support offered; and helps to promote empowerment and independence through facilitating shared experiences and peer support for patients, families and friends. It is friendly, informal and inclusive and we like to invite key speakers from other agencies or areas of interest to come along for a chat.  Anyone who has been touched by a brain tumour diagnosis is more than welcome to attend.  The meetings take place on the third Thursday of each month at St Paul’s Centre, 10.30am - 12pm.  Please feel free to drop in.

• Our 24/7 Emergency Support freephone line and website offer round the clock support to patients, carers, families and the wider community.

• Specialist face-to-face emotional and practical support ensures our patients’ needs are met and enables us to sign-post to other agencies if necessary.

• Providing critical financial support to meet the diverse needs of our patients. This varies from low level financial assistance through to funding specialist nursing care.

We hold a patient support fund which holds monies which have been fundraised for JBTC, this is vital as it means we are able to continue to assist our buddies all year round. Another vital service that we fundraise for is our drop in centre/office in St Helier. This provides a safe and secure place for people to come and talk to us privately and is open Monday - Friday 9:00am - 4:00pm.

We also have ad-hoc projects that are vital for us to promote our services.  By doing so we can help raise awareness to more islanders who don’t know about us and the support we are able to offer.  We work closely with the islands health and social services departments so we can ensure we are there from the point of diagnosis.

We are lucky to have support from our corporate sponsors and supporters who fundraise tirelessly and help us in many ways all year round.  We apply for grants which means any funds raised can go directly to the the people we are here to support.

We provide support to anyone living in Jersey who has been affected by a brain tumour diagnosis (benign or cancerous), be that patient, family, relative(s) or friend(s) providing them with;

I. Care, support, advice and information – practical, emotional and financial.
II. To support and compliment professional health care services, larger charities and other organisations.
III. To raise awareness and improve information and communicate with patients, clients and other agencies.
IV. Establish and maximise funding streams to ensure the sustainability of the charity in the long term.

We need to raise in the region of £60,000 - £80,000 a year to be able to run the charity alongside our patient support fund which is protected for terminal and emergency help.

As the charity continues to develop and grow our outreach work will enable us to meet the demands of ongoing support for those we help now and in the future.
